Fifth stay in 12 years! It is an understatement to say that we like it! Martine and Alain are adorable: welcoming, helpful with good advice and at the same time discreet. The cottage is ideally located for visits and sports activities. Quiet, very well equipped, very clean, nicely decorated, heated swimming pool. A cottage at the top!
Come on holiday in Pays Gaillard to recharge your batteries and to visit!
Martine and Alain, your hosts, share here their suggestions for visits, walks and activities. Places very close to the gîtes where you can get there on foot and places a few kilometers away, but which are really worth the detour if you have never been to the Corrèze region!
IN THE CORNER
Pretty hikes and walks
On the side of the small village of Soulier , to the west of the Causse lake, rises the Pelee mountain of the Causse Corrézien. From above, the view of the lake is panoramic. You choose to climb it on foot or try the mountain bike circuit.
There is no shortage of hiking trails around the gîtes: Peyrefaure (PR16), Puy de Fournet (PR4) where the Virgin of Notre Dame des Champs dominates and many other circuits to discover by theme on the Office de Tourism.
In the area, climbing is also practiced at Fournet and at the Cirque de la Doux, at St Cernin de Larche. To access the Cirque de la Doux, two choices. Either by the village of Laroche by choosing to climb or by the hiking trail that leads to the cliff. A magnificent view of the valley is to be discovered!
JUST NEXT TO THE GITES
Outdoor sports
3 km from the Maison des Templiers and 500 m from the Moulin de La Doux (less than 10 minutes by car), there is the Causse lake , a must in the region! The bravest can get there on foot! Be careful, the small road that will take you to the lake via the charming village of Fournet (a must-see!) descends on the outward journey and will therefore climb on the way back! At the lake, you can go around on foot or by mountain bike, go waterskiing or tubing, try rowing, rent a pedal boat with your family.
The Causse lake also attracts fishermen, take note for amateurs! Good to know, you can also fish in the Couze. Find all the information on fishing in Corrèze.
So many activities to plan around a picnic on the lake beach or an aperitif at the end of the day at the bar on the way while playing a game of petanque! In July and August, spend one of your evenings at the guinguette du lac , the friendly atmosphere with a concert could well please you!
Golf enthusiasts will have the choice, the Golf de Planchetorte located in Brive 15 minutes from the gîtes or the Golf du Coiroux further away in Aubazine 40 minutes away.
IN CORREZE
Tourist visits
From 20 minutes to 1 hour journey , you will discover very different landscapes, this is also the richness of Corrèze. Heading west, in the small town of Noailles 20 minutes away, the Gouffre de La Fage is an original underground visit to be planned over half a day. 30 minutes to the east, Aubazine dominates the Coiroux gorges and is home to an impressive Cistercian abbey. Don't miss the 2 km walk along the Canal des Moines on the side of the rock, it's just magnificent!
From there, continue on the D38 to reach the pretty village of Collonges-la-Rouge. It is here that the association of the most beautiful villages of France was born. You will have plenty to do in the south of Corrèze Turenne and its perched castle, Curemonte "the village of three", Branceilles and its vineyard of 1001 stones...
Further north, 25 minutes towards Donzenac, the Pans de Travassac are worth the detour. This one-of-a-kind tourist site will allow you to discover the famous slate quarries that cover, among other things, the roofs of Mont-Saint-Michel! From here the vineyard of Coteaux de la Vézère is not very far. To continue the excursion, continue towards Pompadour to discover its national stud farm, one of the top places for equestrian events in France. Arrived as far as Pompadour, we continue for about ten kilometers to get to Ségur-le-Château , also classified as the most beautiful village in France.
